Pep Guardiola's Fiery Response to Question About Maresca Replacing Him At Man City
Pep Guardiola hit out at a journalist who quizzed him about his future at Manchester City. The Spaniard's tenure has been thrust into new uncertainty after Enzo Maresca's departure from Chelsea.
The West London outfit decided to pull the plug on their current manager after a dip in form saw them win just one Premier League game during December. And cracks had started to show between the head coach and the club's hierarchy behind the scenes.
Disruption at Stamford Bridge was also happening while Man City kept a watchful eye on the Italian manager, with Maresca among the list of potential candidates who could replace Guardiola when he decides to step away from the Etihad. David Ornstein reported that there is a growing feeling behind the scenes that 2025/26 could be his last season managing the Sky Blues, with a decision expected closer to the end of the term.

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola before facing Sunderland
Considering that Maresca would now be available to inherit the reigns should Guardiola walk away in the summer, media speculation has continued to mount about a new regime coming to be in Manchester. And, with Chelsea set to face Man City on Sunday at 17:30 GMT, journalists took the opportunity to ask the former Barcelona manager whether Maresca would replace him.
However, the 54-year-old was clearly in no mood to respond to questions about his future. Rolling his eyes in exasperation, he proceeded to vent about the constant speculation regarding his position, especially because his contract runs until the summer of 2027.
"Oh my god," he said. "I have a contract. I said a thousand million times. I know you're bored of me - it's 10 years here. I will leave one day, I promise you, but I have a contract. I'm happy. I want to fight with my team.
"The hierarchy respect me, that was proved last season with what happened in this club - we didn't win one game in two, three months. They supported me. What can I do? I want to try and do it but maybe one day, I don't know
