An English football club has released a statement as a hit-and-run has left one of their players "fighting for his life." The car is also said to have also hit two other members of their team, including the manager.
The incident took place in the Nottinghamshire town of Arnold on Saturday morning (May 9). Players from local team Woodthorpe Park Rangers FC had been out celebrating the end of the season the night before the crash.
The driver of the car has since been charged with five counts of attempted murder. Police have also releasted a statement on the matter.
Woodthorpe Park Rangers Statement
Woodthorpe Park Rangers, who compete in the Nottinghamshire Senior League, posted an update which read:
“3 members of our team including the manager was struck by a car in Arnold town centre, this has left one of our players fighting for his life in hospital.”
They explained that two more memebers of the team, including the manager, are now 'recovering well with small injuries,' befofe adding: “We are hoping and praying for our player who is a much loved lad by all, we’re supporting each other the best we can.
“We are all struggling right now and are asking for privacy and respect so we can get our heads around what has happened, this is a heartbreaking and awful time for our club.”

Details Emerge As Man Charged With Five Counts Murder

As per the Sun, the car is said to have ploughed into a group of people. Emergency services were then called to Market Place in Arnold, Nottinghamshire, at just after 1pm on Saturday, following reports a red Vauxhall Astra had mounted a kerb and collided with a group of people.
Local police have now charged Duane Anthony, 40, with five counts of attempted murder. He has also been charged with aggravated vehicle taking, driving while disqualified and driving without valid insurance, said the force.
Anthony is due to appear at Nottingham Magistrates’ Court today. Detective Chief Inspector Ruby Burrow, who is leading the investigation, shared a statement, stating:
“As we share today’s news, our thoughts remain with those affected by this incident, in particular the man who sustained life-threatening injuries.
“The victims and their families have been updated on today’s charging decision, which we hope will provide some small degree of comfort at this difficult time.
"This was a shocking incident that will have been incredibly distressing for all those involved and anyone who witnessed it happen. On that note, I’d ask people to please not speculate about this incident, online or otherwise, as doing so could potentially impede the pursuit of justice.
“As our investigation continues, I would like to thank the entire investigation team, who worked around the clock throughout the weekend to help secure these charges.”
Cops have also confirmed that Counter Terrorism Police are not involved in the investigation.
